Jevgeni Onegin

“Eugene Onegin…” a name has never been uttered with more yearning than by Tatyana in the opera Jevgeni Onegin, by the greatest of all composers, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, based on the eponymous novel by Alexander Pushkin. And a woman has seldom been rejected as painfully as Tatyana was by Eugene.

Opera Spanga is presenting the opera classic Jevgeni Onegin this summer. This jam-packed opera calls for more than only singing. Opera Spanga has asked international dance company Ivgi&Greben, established in our own province, Fryslân, to transform this unsurpassable tragic opera into an unrivalled piece of theater together.

From the 20th of July until the 5th of August, we will perform in Spanga, in a half-open tent overlooking the endless landscape of birch trees of the Rottige Meente. You are seated on a grandstand with chairs.

Starring Aylin Sezer as Tatyana, David Visser as Eugene Onegin, Itzel Medecigo as Olga, Juan Carlos Echeverry as Lenski, Catrin Wyn Davies as Larina, Annelies Lamm as Filippyevna, Galen Dole as Prince Gremin, Aaike Nortier as monsieur Triquet and Gertjan Put as Captain. Supported by the Spanga Festival Choir and Orchestra and the powerful dancers of Ivgi&Greben, conducted by Tjalling Wijnstra and directed by Corina van Eijk, Uri Ivgi and Johan Greben.

The creative team consists of Tania Ballve Fernandez (costume design), Pieter van Rooij and Edu de Jonge (stage design), Henk Post (light design) and Laura de Jonge (hair- and make-up design).
The production team is formed by Ewa Pradzynska-Kostecka in collaboration with Ype Terwisscha van Scheltinga and Amarins Geveke from Ivgi&Greben.
