Yorick Stam

production manager

Yorick Stam is director, songwriter and singer. After studying at the Directing Academy (Toneelacademie Maastricht) and then the prestigious Master of Theater Singing/Singer Performer (Amsterdamse Toneel- en Kleinkunstacademie in collaboration with Conservatorium Amsterdam), he focuses on both music and theater, rarely separately.

His graduation directing in 2011 was the opera Blauwbaards Burcht by Béla Bartók. He subsequently worked as a freelance director for various companies, ensembles and festivals, including Musica Sacra and the Gentse Feesten. He has been regularly involved in Opera Spanga productions since 2009, as an assistant director or performance manager. He also directed and produced several small productions independently, and was an editor for De Nieuwe Toneelbibliotheek. His own ensemble, under the name Yorick Stam, plays his new Dutch-language repertoire. This ensemble is the offshoot of a long-running and successful concert series entitled Yorick zingt Shaffy. He recently worked for a number of years as a director at Oorkaan, where he was responsible for, among other things, Vier! (co-direction) and Gong en de vier neuzen (direction), which premiered in the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam.

With his love for the cross-pollination between music and opera, he wants to make an authentic, high-quality and sparkling contribution to Opera Spanga. For more information see yorickstam.nl.
